Where to eat Sevilla: La Pepona

La Pepona, a modern tapas bar, is located smack dab in the center of Sevilla, very close to the Encarnación “Las Setas” Market. The name of the bar is derived from the nick name of its owner José López Alba, aka Pepón. Juanlu, the manager, and his staff are truly on top of the game. They pay special attention to detail and good service. The wines are just as fabulous as their fresh and creatively constructed plates. My favorite are the sardines. If you think you don’t like sardines, this plate may just completely change your mind.
I stumbled on this restaurant while dining with olive oil producers from Cortijo Spiritu Santo. The producers wanted to try it out because La Pepona was using their olive oil. There are very few bars and restaurants in Seville and in Spain and in the world for that matter that actually pay attention to the quality of the oil they are using. Just the other day I dined at one of the top named tapas bars in Seville, only to notice that the oils that they were using had various defects. To see La Pepona using olive oils like Spiritu Santo and El Supremo was such a delight to my palate.
Juanlu explained that they were currently using these two brands but they like to change it up every now and then. We should expect to see many great olive oils being used at La Pepona.
Can´t wait. I will be back.
